LUBARI--Col. C. Chaille Long, 1878-- RAIN-MAKER IDIOM

EGYPT, AFRICA, AND AFRICANS, Col. C. Chaille Long
American Geographical Society, Chickering Hall, 1878

Last, but not least, my magnetic battery, which early in the route I had named 'Lubari,' a word which signifies in many African idioms clouds, rain, a rain-maker, (being the favorite god of the savage:) with this little instrument I knocked them down, and thus both physically and politically electrified them. I was the 'deux ex machina' of the Uganda and to my little 'Lubari' I owe much of my ascendency over the proud, vain and cruel M'Tse.
